Education Office

Golestan University (GU) is a public university located in Gorgan, Golestan province, in the north of Iran. GU was established in 2008 by becoming an independent entity from Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. It comprises 26 departments in four major faculties of Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Engineering (Gorgan Campus and Aliabad Katoul Campus).  GU is currently home to nearly 160 faculty members who are training more than 4500 students from which around 750 are postgraduate in a wide range of sciences and technology.

Faculty of Sciences Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Sciences, which is the oldest faculty at GU, was founded at Gorgan University of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources in 1992 and started its activities with the acceptance of 11 students in the field of Biology (Animal Sciences) and since 2007, it was established as the first faculty at GU.

Now, it consists of six Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Physics, and Statistics.

The faculty offers bachelor’s and master’s study programs in all above mentioned fields and Ph.D. programs in Biology, Chemistry, Geology and Mathematics.

This faculty also plays a key role through its course offered in the areas of Mathematics and Physics for students of other faculties at GU, particularly for students studying in engineering programs.

Currently, the faculty has sixty-two full-time faculty members and fourteen staff dedicated to the research and education of more than 850 B.Sc. and 236 M.Sc. and 44 Ph.D. students in various fields. 

This faculty distinguishes itself through excellence in both pure and applied research and its broad scientific achievements on novel issues.

Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in 2007. The Faculty comprises the Departments of Economy, English Language and Literature, Geography, Islamic Studies, Law, Management, Persian Language and Literature, Social Sciences, and Physical Education and Sport Sciences.

There are more than 1700 students at B.Sc. and M.Sc. levels in more than 22 sub-disciplines who can draw on the knowledge and expertise of over 50 full-time faculty members.

The faculty's main objective is to provide its students and researchers a stimulating, innovative, and scientific environment for education and research at the frontier of knowledge. As a key part of its mission, the faculty tackle some of the important societal challenges currently facing the country and the world through interdisciplinary work.

This faculty distinguishes itself for its interdisciplinary study programs, theoretical and empirical research activities, and high-quality teaching, as well as curricular and extra-curricular activities.

Faculty of Engineering (Aliabad Katoul Campus) Faculty of Engineering (Gorgan Campus)

The Faculty of Engineering of GU-Aliabad Katoul Campus started its activities in 2006 by accepting students in Computer Software Engineering and Survey Engineering in the city of Aliabad Katoul. It became one of the main faculties of GU after the foundation of GU in 2009.

This faculty now consists of three Departments of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Surveying Engineering. Currently, over 350 students pursue their education and research of 9 full-time faculty members.

Well-equipped laboratories and workshops of the faculty provide a very appropriate platform to study and research in a scientific environment.

The Faculty of Engineering-Gorgan Campus was established in 2009 by offering four B.Sc. programs in Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Polymer Engineering. Now, the faculty comprises the Departments of Architecture and Art, Computer, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, and Polymer Engineering.

Currently, the faculty with over 38 full-time faculty members are training students in a wide range of technology fields with 1310 students, of whom 996 are undergraduates, and 314 are master’s students.

The faculty's main mission is to solve the most pressing challenges of the country as well as the region through multidisciplinary research and experiential education. The faculty try to prepare the next generation of engineering leaders through rigorous education, research activities as well as extracurricular experience opportunities.

Various research labs containing high-tech equipments provide appropriate platforms and attractive qualification possibilities for students to study and perform research at the frontier of knowledge in an innovative and scientific environment.
